Roger Ebert has named What’s the Matter With Kansas? one of the ten best documentaries of 2009. The film opens in San Francisco on January 1. Filmmakers Joe Winston and Laura Cohen will be at select screenings on Jan 1 and will be joined by author Thomas Frank at evening screenings on Jan 2. Check out the Landmark Theatres site for more info.
On my way back home for the After Harvest Festival.
Happy birthday, Kansas!
Is this a justifiable question for someone to ask or just dumb?dumb. fucking dumb.
Once, I had this conversation:
Person: Where are you from?
Me: St. Louis.
Person: Oh wow! I’ve always wanted to go to The Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame.
Me: Me too. That’s actually in Cleveland.
Person: Yeah, I know. [Pause.] St. Louis is in Cleveland, right?
I may or may not know someone who reads this blog who asked me if Kansas was in Texas when I first them.
But that’s okay, we’re even. I’m fully prepared to admit I didn’t know Wales was a country until I moved to the UK. LOL
**Cue the “Wales didn’t know either” jokes in 5, 4, 3, 2…
Holy crap I did not know this bit of awesomeness…
IMDB’s How I Met Your Mother Trivia:During one episode, Robin freaks out in a restaurant when she mistakenly thinks Ted is proposing to her after she receives a champagne glass with an engagement ring at the bottom. When Ted tells her “That’s not mine”, another gentlemen at the table behind them says “It’s mine”, then proceeds to propose to the woman at his table. The proposal between the man and woman was real. The man set up the whole scheme with the show’s producers, and told his girlfriend that they won a contest and got to be extras in a HIMYM episode. Instead, he proposed on camera, and the proposal will live on forever as part of the episode.
I only knew about this because the girl in question is from my hometown. I keep meaning to ask her about it on Facebook. LOL
Use this site to see which businesses in your state contributed to support prop 8. From the site:
“These businesses have the right to support whatever ballot measures they want, but fair-minded citizens of all sexual orientations also have the right to take their money elsewhere and not patronize businesses that support bigotry. This site is not a witch-hunt but is a tool intended to help people make informed decisions when they shop for products and services.”
I support this.
I also support this.
I cosign also.
The funny thing is that when I checked for Kansas I found out there’s only one guy listed and he’s a doctor in Winfield.
RANDOM FACT: Winfield, KS is the fictional hometown of Mary Ann from Gilligan’s Island.
OMFG LOOK WHAT I JUST READ ON THE CARPENTERS WIKIPEDIA PAGE!!!!
“Richard sought treatment for his addiction to quaaludes at a Topeka, Kansas facility for six weeks starting in January 1979.”
