Meet Brian Gallivan AKA Sassy Gay Friend

If you haven’t seen the videos yet, definitely check them out.  I thought Brian’s answer to the following question was spot on:

EDGE: How do you respond to those who might say your depiction of “sassy gay friend” is based in stereotype that are detrimental to the LGBT community?

BG: It’s an interesting question. I guess it depends on what part of the stereotype is detrimental to the gay community. Is it the way Sassy Gay Friend talks and his mannerisms? I know many wonderful gay men who talk and move like Sassy Gay Friend, and would anyone say those actual men are detrimental to the LGBT community? I hope not. Sassy Gay Friend is smart, fun, and loyal. And he tries his best to help his ladies. However, I will say that if anyone thinks his orange, beaded scarf is detrimental to the LGBT community, I might just have to agree. That scarf is pretty bad. And may prevent us from obtaining the right to marry.

My copy of this is missing, but trust me when I say it makes for an interesting coffee table book…
If I ever need a proper DJ name, this is it.

Michael, a bartender at The Edge, drew a blind contour portrait of me when I was there on Sunday.  Not sure why it looks like I had a cigarette in my mouth.

Westboro Baptist Church To Picket Twitter

Does anyone know who I might contact to organize a counter-protest and/or fundraiser? I wouldn’t mind doing something like we used to do at KU, i.e., people would pledge money for each minute the Phelps clan protests meaning the longer they’re out there, the more money they’d be raising for charities which counter their hate-filled agenda. Give me a shout if you know anyone in the Bay Area who might be able to help facilitate something like this.  Thanks!

I hate hype. Hype has killed so many things that when I started hearing the buzz around Precious, I knew I needed to see it sooner rather than later or else the continuous praise might release the inner-hater in me.
I caught the film at a Frameline screening last night and can honestly say it deserves all the accolades it has received/will continue to receive.  The film is a roller coaster of emotion but thanks to wonderful dialogue and fantastic acting, it never feels cheap.  Do yourself a favor and check it out.

A quote from @slimthugga // I never woke up this morning expecting to get in a Twitter fight with Slim Thug.  I still don’t understand how someone who’s spent so much time with Pharrell can be homophobic. LOL

Damn you, Rob Thomas!

For making me have to like you at least a bit for saying the following:

“I’ve heard it said before, many times, that if two men or two women are allowed to join into a civil union together, why can’t they be happy with that and why is it so important that they call it marriage? In essence, what’s in a name?…A civil union has to do with death. It’s essentially a document that gives you lower taxes and the right to let your faux spouse collect your insurance when you pass away. A marriage is about life. It’s about a commitment. And this argument is about allowing people to have the right to make that commitment, even if it doesn’t make sense to you. Anything else falls under the category of ‘separate but equal’ and we know how that works out.”

I still won’t forgive you for Smooth though.
