Sometimes 'nothing' is a real cool hand...

A twenty-something guy from Kansas living in San Francisco (via the UK and the Netherlands). I tend to geek out about music, film, television, LOLs, guys and other stuff. Not always in that order.

Donna Fargo - Manhattan, Kansas

//

I had never heard of Donna Fargo until I stumbled upon this song today, but I must say I want to learn more.  Once I got past the fact that she’s singing about Manhattan, Kansas I realized it could actually be any smalltown.  But I love me some songs that talk about Kansas and this one’s a treasure:

Sometimes I stand here thinkin’ ‘bout a man back home in Kansas,
And how the folks just turned away ashamed.
I stare down through the soap suds, reach down and pull the drain plug,
And watch it as Manhattan floats away.

Yes, I laid beside him gentle ‘cause he told me that he loved me,
And he made me dance before the music played.
But at least I didn’t beg him; I’d rather wash my dishes,
‘Cause it makes me feel as if my hands’re clean.
